Balla Florists Featured in WeddingsOnline Wedding Staircase Décor Feature
We’re Delighted to Be Featured by WeddingsOnline for Our Wedding Staircase Floral Designs. At Balla Florists, we are passionate about creating beautiful floral designs that help make every wedding day unforgettable. That’s why we were delighted to see several of our staircase wedding flower displays featured in a recent WeddingsOnline inspiration article showcasing statement staircase décor.
WeddingsOnline is one of Ireland’s leading wedding resources, helping couples discover ideas, inspiration and trusted wedding suppliers. Their article highlights how floral staircase installations can transform a venue and create stunning focal points for both guests and photographs.
Among the designs featured were some of our favourite staircase creations, including flowing floral garlands, elegant lantern displays and statement floral arrangements designed to enhance the beauty of each venue.
Staircases are often overlooked when planning wedding flowers, but they can become one of the most striking features of a wedding venue. Whether it’s a grand entrance, a sweeping staircase in a country house hotel or a smaller decorative feature, flowers can add colour, romance and impact to the space.
We would like to thank WeddingsOnline for including our work in their feature and for showcasing the creativity and craftsmanship that goes into wedding floristry.

After an incredible few days at Bord Bia Bloom 2026, I’m still reflecting on what was a fantastic event for Irish floristry.
As owner of Balla Flowers, a florist based in Mayo, and a board member of the Institute of Flowers, I was delighted to spend the festival celebrating the creativity, talent and passion that exists throughout the Irish floristry industry.
The Institute of Flowers at Bloom 2026
This year, the Institute of Flowers had an exciting presence at Bloom, welcoming thousands of visitors throughout the festival. As a newly established organisation, the Institute is dedicated to supporting and developing the floristry profession in Ireland through education, networking, professional standards and career development opportunities.
Our stand provided an opportunity for visitors to learn more about floristry, meet industry professionals and discover the artistry behind floral design.
Sharing My Floristry Journey
One of the highlights of Bloom 2026 was taking part in a live floristry demonstration. It was a wonderful opportunity to share some of my favourite floral design techniques and reflect on the growth of Balla Flowers over the past 21 years.
Meeting fellow florists, flower growers, designers, suppliers and flower enthusiasts from across Ireland made the experience even more special. Bloom continues to be one of Ireland’s most inspiring events for anyone passionate about flowers, gardening and creativity.
Inspiration for Weddings and Events Across Mayo
While Bloom may be over for another year, the inspiration certainly continues.
The colours, textures, floral trends and creative ideas showcased throughout the festival are already influencing our designs for weddings, events and special occasions. At Balla Flowers, we’re looking forward to bringing that inspiration to our clients throughout Mayo and beyond.
Whether you’re planning a wedding, corporate event, family celebration or special occasion, flowers play an important role in creating memorable experiences, and we’re excited to help bring those visions to life.
Thank You to Everyone Who Supported Bloom
A huge thank you to everyone who visited the Institute of Flowers stand, attended demonstrations, volunteered their time, supplied flowers or supported the organisation throughout the weekend.
The teamwork, creativity and generosity on display were outstanding and made Bloom 2026 a truly memorable experience.

Church weddings can be incredibly beautiful, timeless, and atmospheric. But when it comes to flowers, they can also be one of the trickiest spaces to style correctly.
Many churches in Ireland already have strong architectural features, detailed interiors, and natural focal points. Because of this, adding more flowers does not always create a better result.
In fact, some of the most elegant church wedding flowers are often the most considered and understated.
At Balla Florist, we always encourage couples to work with the space rather than compete against it.
In this guide, we’ll explain:
- What works best for church wedding flowers
- Common mistakes couples make
- How to create impact without overcrowding the space
- Ways to make ceremony flowers feel elegant and timeless
Understanding Church Wedding Spaces
Many churches throughout Ireland already contain beautiful visual elements, including:
- Marble altars
- High ceilings
- Traditional woodwork
- Strong architectural lines
- Natural symmetry and focal points
These features already bring atmosphere and character to the ceremony space.
Because of this, wedding flowers should enhance the church rather than overwhelm it.
One of the most common mistakes we see is trying to decorate every area individually, which can create visual clutter and take away from the beauty of the space itself.
What Works Best for Church Wedding Flowers in Ireland
When designing church wedding flowers, simplicity and placement are often more important than quantity.
Focus on the Altar Area
The altar naturally becomes the visual centre of the ceremony.
A well-designed altar arrangement or pair of statement pieces can create far more impact than dozens of smaller arrangements spread throughout the church.
Popular options include:
- Statement pedestal arrangements
- Floral urns
- Ground floral meadows
- Soft asymmetric altar flowers
This creates a beautiful focal point for both guests and photography.
Subtle Aisle Flowers Create Elegance
Aisle flowers work best when they are used selectively and with intention.
Rather than decorating every pew, a more elegant approach is often:
- Flowers from halfway up the aisle
- Smaller clustered arrangements
- Simple ribbon or foliage accents
- Candles combined with florals where permitted
This creates softness and flow without overwhelming the ceremony space.
Entrance Flowers Can Make a Big Difference
Church entrance flowers are often overlooked, but they help create a beautiful first impression for guests arriving at the ceremony.
Simple entrance arrangements can:
- Frame the doorway beautifully
- Create a welcoming atmosphere
- Tie the ceremony styling together
- Add visual impact for photography
Even minimal floral styling at the entrance can elevate the overall look significantly.
What to Avoid With Church Wedding Flowers
While every church is different, there are a few common mistakes that can make ceremony flowers feel overcrowded or disconnected from the space.
Overdecorating the Church
Trying to place flowers everywhere often reduces the impact of the overall design.
In larger churches especially, too many small arrangements can feel visually busy rather than elegant.
Competing With the Architecture
Historic churches already carry strong visual identity and atmosphere.
Flowers should complement these features rather than compete with them through overly modern, oversized, or mismatched designs.
Focusing on Quantity Over Placement
A few well-placed arrangements usually create more impact than large numbers of smaller pieces.
Thoughtful placement is what creates balance and flow throughout the ceremony space.
A More Considered Approach to Ceremony Flowers
The most beautiful church wedding flowers are usually the ones that feel natural within the space.
When designed properly, ceremony flowers should:
- Guide the eye gently through the church
- Frame important moments
- Enhance the atmosphere
- Create softness without distraction
- Feel timeless in photographs
At Balla Florist, we always work closely with couples to design ceremony flowers that feel elegant, intentional, and suited to the specific church venue.
Final Thoughts
Church wedding flowers do not need to be excessive to feel beautiful.
Often, the most impactful designs come from understanding the space, choosing the right focal points, and allowing the flowers to enhance the atmosphere naturally.
With the right approach, ceremony flowers can feel timeless, elegant, and completely in harmony with your wedding day.
Planning your wedding flowers can feel overwhelming, especially when trying to understand wedding flower costs in Ireland. One couple may spend €1,500, while another invests €10,000 or more, leaving many couples unsure what is actually realistic for their day.
At Balla Florist, one of the most common questions we hear from couples is:
“How much should we realistically budget for wedding flowers?”
The truth is, wedding flower costs in Ireland vary depending on your venue, guest numbers, floral style, and priorities.
In this guide, we’ll break down:
- Average wedding flower costs in Ireland
- What you’re actually paying for
- How to prioritise your floral budget
- Ways to get better value from your flowers
- Tips for creating elegant wedding flowers without overspending
If you’re currently planning your wedding flowers, this guide should help you feel far more confident about what to expect.
What Is the Average Cost of Wedding Flowers in Ireland?
Most couples in Ireland typically spend somewhere between:
- €1,500–€3,000 for intimate weddings or simple floral styling
- €3,000–€6,000 for full wedding party flowers and reception styling
- €6,000+ for luxury floral design, large installations, and statement floral features
These figures can vary depending on:
- The size of your wedding
- Your venue
- The season
- Flower selection
- The level of styling involved
For example, a bouquet-focused wedding with minimal reception flowers will naturally cost less than a wedding featuring floral arches, hanging installations, or large-scale centrepieces throughout the venue.
Why Wedding Flowers Cost More Than Many Couples Expect
One of the biggest misconceptions about wedding flowers is that couples are only paying for the flowers themselves.
In reality, professional wedding floristry is a complete design and styling service.
Your floral investment typically includes:
- Design consultations and planning
- Floral concepts and mood boards
- Sourcing premium flowers and foliage
- Flower preparation and conditioning
- Professional floral styling
- Delivery and transport
- Venue setup and installation
- Collection and breakdown after the wedding
At Balla Florist, we believe wedding flowers should feel effortless, intentional, and beautifully connected to the overall atmosphere of your day.
Where Should You Prioritise Your Wedding Flower Budget?
If you want maximum visual impact without unnecessary overspending, there are a few areas worth prioritising.
Bridal Bouquet
Your bouquet appears in nearly every important photograph throughout the day.
From morning preparations to ceremony portraits, it becomes one of the most photographed floral pieces of the wedding.
Ceremony Flowers
Ceremony flowers help create the backdrop for some of the most emotional moments of the day.
Popular ceremony flower options include:
- Floral arches
- Ground meadows
- Entrance arrangements
- Statement urns
- Aisle flowers
These designs often create the strongest visual impact in wedding photography.
Top Table or Main Reception Space
Guests are naturally drawn toward the couple’s table and the main reception area.
A beautifully styled top table can elevate the entire room, even when the rest of the floral styling is more understated.
How to Get Better Value From Your Wedding Flowers
A good wedding florist will always help you maximise your floral budget.
One of the best ways to do this is by reusing flowers throughout the day.
Repurpose Ceremony Flowers
Many ceremony arrangements can later be moved into the reception space, including:
- Aisle flowers
- Entrance arrangements
- Floral plinths
- Ceremony backdrops
These can often be repositioned behind the top table, beside the cake, or throughout the reception room.
Reuse Bridesmaid Bouquets
Bridesmaid bouquets can be styled in vases around the venue after the ceremony, helping to add extra detail to guestbook tables, bar areas, or lounge spaces.
Focus on Key Visual Areas
Rather than spreading flowers thinly across every corner of the venue, focusing on a few impactful areas often creates a more elegant and luxurious atmosphere.
Does Seasonality Affect Wedding Flower Prices?
Yes, seasonality can have a major influence on wedding flower pricing in Ireland.
Flowers that are naturally in season are generally:
- More cost-effective
- Better quality
- Fresher and longer lasting
Out-of-season flowers often need to be imported, which can increase overall costs.
At Balla Florist, we often guide couples toward seasonal flower choices that achieve a beautiful look while working more efficiently within their budget.
How to Save Money on Wedding Flowers Without Sacrificing Style
If you are trying to reduce costs while still creating a beautiful atmosphere, consider:
- Choosing seasonal flowers
- Mixing candles with floral styling
- Reusing flowers throughout the day
- Prioritising focal areas over filling every space
- Investing in fewer, larger statement arrangements
- Trusting your florist with flexible flower choices
Often, simplicity done well feels far more luxurious than trying to do too much.
Final Thoughts
Wedding flowers are not about spending the most money possible. They are about creating the right atmosphere for your day and investing in the details that matter most to you.
With thoughtful planning and the right florist, it is absolutely possible to create elegant, impactful wedding flowers that feel completely aligned with your wedding style and budget.
At Balla Florist, we work closely with couples across Ireland to create floral designs that feel natural, timeless, and personal to each wedding.
January is all about fresh starts, new beginnings, and setting intentions for the year ahead. While it’s often a quieter month, flowers remain a powerful way to bring colour, positivity, and life into homes and workplaces. At Balla Florist, January is the perfect time to embrace clean designs, uplifting colours, and beautifully simple arrangements.
After the festive season, many customers prefer lighter, fresher styles. Soft whites, creams, greens, pale pinks, and cheerful yellows are especially popular in January. Flowers such as roses, lilies, chrysanthemums, gerberas, and seasonal foliage work beautifully in modern, understated designs.
January flowers are ideal for a wide range of occasions. From birthdays and anniversaries to thank-you gifts and sympathy arrangements, a thoughtfully chosen bouquet can say so much without words. November is often seen as a quieter month, but it’s actually one of the most meaningful times of year to send flowers. As the days become shorter and the weather turns colder, a beautiful floral arrangement can truly brighten someone’s day. At Balla Florist, November is all about thoughtful gestures, comforting colours, and seasonal blooms designed with care.
Flowers in November tend to feature richer tones and soft textures. Deep reds, creamy whites, warm yellows, and muted pinks are especially popular, often paired with seasonal foliage to add depth and interest. These arrangements are perfect for birthdays, anniversaries, sympathy flowers, or simply letting someone know you’re thinking of them.
November is also a time when many people appreciate a little extra kindness. Sending flowers “just because” can make a huge difference, particularly during the darker months. A fresh bouquet delivered to a home or workplace can lift spirits and bring warmth when it’s needed most.
At Balla Florist, we focus on using high-quality seasonal flowers that are chosen for both beauty and longevity. Our florists design each arrangement by hand, ensuring every bouquet feels personal and thoughtfully put together. Whether you’re sending flowers locally or arranging delivery to a nearby area, you can trust that your order will be handled with care.
Another advantage of ordering flowers in November is availability. Florists have access to a wide variety of blooms, allowing for creative designs without the rush of the festive season just yet. This makes it a great time to order bespoke arrangements or something a little different.
If you’re looking for reliable flower delivery, expertly designed bouquets, or a trusted local florist, Balla Florist is here for you. November may be a quieter month, but it’s the perfect time to send a meaningful gift that truly stands out.
This November marks a very special milestone for us at Balla Florists as we celebrate 21 years in business.
What began in 2004 as a small local flower shop has grown into a creative studio serving customers right across Mayo and beyond. Over the years, we’ve had the privilege of being part of so many important life moments, from weddings and anniversaries to new arrivals and farewells. Every bouquet we’ve made has carried a story, and it’s been our greatest joy to help people express their love, celebration, and sympathy through flowers.
Behind every arrangement is Judi and her talented team, who continue to put care and attention into every order. Trends and styles may have changed over time, but our commitment to quality, creativity, and friendly service has remained the same.
We are so proud of the strong relationships we’ve built with our customers, couples, and community. Your loyalty and support have helped our small business thrive for more than two decades, and for that, we are truly grateful.
We have also been honoured to receive recognition through the WeddingsOnline Awards and Weddingsupplier.ie which reflect the hard work and dedication of our team.
As we look ahead, we’re excited for what’s to come and thankful for all who have been part of our journey so far. Here’s to the next chapter filled with new blooms, fresh ideas, and many more memories made together.
Thank you for 21 wonderful years of flowers, friendship, and community.
