Ordering Special Occasion Flowers
Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day which are both only around the corner are a good time to send flowers to your partner and mam. They are two of the most special occasions on a florists calendar.
Flowers always bring a smile and warm hearts, never hesitate to send someone flowers. Whether it’s a simple bouquet, a lavish arrangement or flowers for a bereavement, flowers convey the message that you care about them.
As a florist, there are a few tips I wanted to share that will help you order flowers around any special occasion especially Valentine’s Day 14th February 2021 and Mother’s Day March 14th 2021.
Before You Order
Take a moment and get this vital information your florist needs to deliver your gift.
– First and last name of the recipient
– Address of the home or the name and address of the business. If the business requires security check let them know.
– Phone number for the recipient. It’s best to have the person’s direct number so, if needed, special arrangements can be made to ensure they get their gift.
– Eircode if possible as it will enable us deliver in a safe and contactless manner.
– A card message. Remember most enclosure cards are small so you don’t need to say too much. The flowers will say enough. Keep it simple and thoughtful.
– Have your credit card ready to go.

What to Order
Generally, we have our own design in a favourite style and with flowers they know will be high quality. Balla Florists will also have different price points you can choose from which is nice when you’re working with a budget. We add our shop’s special touch to ensure that it stands out from other brands.
Be sure to check out our website www.ballaflorists.com to find a special display that you love and works with a budget you’re comfortable with.
Never hesitate to increase the price and have more flowers added. Have a look around the website for lovely add ons to make the gift extra special such as chocolates, teddies, candles, balloons and gift sets.
Note: there is a delivery charge – this enables us to deliver a safe and contactless delivery. We have to pay for our lovely driver, diesel, time and allow for delays as we have multiple deliveries every hour. We do not use couriers or taxis as we prefer to complete a personal delivery service.
Mix it Up
Roses are a timeless classic for Valentine’s day. If that’s their favourite flower, then that’s the perfect choice, but remember try and order early especially this year. We have to operate a delivery service only during Level 5 restrictions so we have to be prepared.
If you don’t know what their favourite flower is, a mixed bouquet of assorted flowers is a brilliant choice. Maybe with some luck they’ll say “oh you had them put lilies in, those are my favourite!” and you can reply “that’s what I thought too,” and then add that note in your phonecall or online order and they’ll never know.
Send their favourite colour – consider sending flowers in their favourite colour and not traditional holiday colours.
Think how special they will feel when they have realised that you asked for their favourite colour. Our shop will also have a beautiful selection of non-traditional holiday colours. Sending favourite colours is a great way for us to use our premium blooms for your thoughtful special occasion flowers.

Florist’s Choice
This is always the best choice when you really want to send something special. As a florist, this is what I ask for when I send flowers out of my area. If I’m sending special occasion flowers to my own friends or family from another florist I always ask for florist choice and I’ve never been disappointed. Usually these orders are given to the lead designer who will create a bespoke design with your request in mind.
The florist’s choice represents the best flowers and creativity the shop offers. It can be a more expensive option, but it’s always going to be the most impressive and unique.
Special Requests
If you have a special request for a particular flower or plant, order it as soon as possible. It is best to also always have a plan B. We’re dealing with perishable and seasonal products, so it might not arrive at the flower shop in time or in perfect condition. Having a plan B will ensure your florist can send out a gift you’ll be pleased with and the recipient will love too.

Balla Florists are in business almost 17 years. Our aim is to provide a great service, beautiful blooms and convey your sentiments in an easy, efficient and kind manner.
At Balla Florists we care about our customers and during this pandemic we have upgraded our systems, sourced great suppliers and operated in one of the most difficult periods we have ever seen.

Whew! What a roller-coaster we are on. One day we’re going about our business and almost over-night we are social distancing and changing all the plans we thought we had for 2020 and now 2021.

FOR MANY OF YOU, THAT INCLUDES POSTPONING YOUR WEDDING. LET’S JUST TAKE A MOMENT TO RECOGNISE THE MAGNITUDE HERE.
You’ve been planning this day for months, maybe years. And here you are, almost to the finish line and mere weeks away from ‘I do’ and a pandemic!
So on top of trying to figure out how you’re going to do your job from home, or losing your job, or having to go into battle as a health care professional and face this down every day (THANK YOU isn’t enough!), you’ve got to scramble and move a wedding.
It’s not over yet. But, at this point, you’ve done everything you can to reschedule. You’ve hopefully retained all of your suppliers. Now you just wait this thing out until your new date arrives and wait for the miracle vaccine to roll out. What do you do in the meantime? We’ve put together a little guide on how to navigate your wedding flowers and COVID-19.

HERE ARE SOME TIPS FROM A FLORIST’S PERSPECTIVE:
· COMMUNICATE. Reach out to your florist for a phone or video call if they haven’t already, to discuss the date change. Let them know about any other changes such as suppliers, locations, times, etc.
· READ your contract carefully. Ask your florist if you have any questions regarding payments, reductions in totals, cancellation of line items, and fluctuations in flower pricing. Please do not ask for work arounds or exceptions to your contract. Contracts protect both you as the consumer and the business. Florists are notoriously kind and generous people. Please, do not put us in a situation where we have to go against our nature and say no so that we can stay in business.
· FOLLOW your florist on social media and watch their posts/stories and updates regarding how COVID-19 is affecting the floral industry. They should be sharing valuable information that will help you to understand the breadth of the situation and allow you to take a wider view when you discuss changes with your florist for the new date.
· BE OPEN to your florist’s suggestions when it comes to how to navigate your wedding flowers and COVID-19. He/She may need to adapt your current wedding design plan to the new season and date, as well as the availability of certain flowers. The cut flower industry is taking hard hit from Corona Virus and it isn’t likely to rebound quickly.
· BE GENEROUS if you can. Understand that your florist has lost a significant amount of income that he/she was counting on for the first half of the year. This is lost income that we were counting on. We know that many of our couples are in the same boat financially and are grateful that you are still going forward with your wedding in the future. If you can, please consider applying a payment to your outstanding balance, even if it is now not due for several months. (Florists reading this, make sure you are being wise about spending deposits as well!)
· BE UNDERSTANDING. This is also our first time trying to navigate your wedding flowers and COVID-19. Also keep in mind the time and money your florist has already put into creating the day of your dreams. He/she has likely written flower recipes, mapped out timelines, and even may have ordered vases and supplies. We are currently using our time to manage our children who are home from school/childcare, help our parents, scramble to understand and secure financial relief to pay our immediate bills and stay relevant on social media.
· Please SUPPORT your florist (and all of your suppliers) through this time by liking and sharing their posts on social media, encouraging your engaged friends to start the planning process (we are still doing virtual consultations for 2021& 2022 dates!), and even writing an online review about how they’ve been so far.
I hope you know that we at Balla Florists deeply care for our couples. We are absolutely heart-broken that you have to wait to be married. To have to postpone the celebration of your love is gut-wrenching. We are absolutely grateful, however, that you have chosen to postpone, not cancel. And we will be with you every step of the way until you finally walk down the aisle. We just ask that you love us back however you can too.
If you are opting for a smaller wedding this year, please ask about collect option for your wedding flowers. Balla Florists offer pick-up wedding flowers with a streamlined process and the beautiful designs you know and love.

Most of us love having fresh flowers in our homes, whether they appear as a weekly bouquet, a once in a while treat, or reserved for special occasions. However, there may be more to it. Flowers have been shown to have extraordinary power over people, affecting our moods, improving our health and work performance. Balla Florists looked at 3 reasons why everyone should introduce fresh flowers into their home.
Boost Your Mood
Scientific research has shown that flowers can genuinely boost your mood, increasing happiness and decreasing feelings of stress and anxiety. Researchers have put this amazing side effect down to a culturally learned association of flowers as a symbol of positivity. It’s no wonder when flowers are present at some of our happiest events like weddings, birthdays, and new births. Flowers can also trigger memories of these special events or of approaching spring and summer, a time when most of us are generally happier.
Improve Your Work Life
On top of decreasing stress, flowers have also been reported to lift concentration levels and creativity, and increase cognitive performance. For people who work from home and want to improve their concentration, or need a creative lift, a bouquet of fresh flowers is an easy way to stimulate both. Putting them in your home office or on your desk at work is a sure fire way to reap the benefits, with bright colours or a creative arrangement even more beneficial for getting the creative juices flowing. If calming is your aim, opt for lighter colours that fall near to each other on the colour wheel, whilst choosing blooms in bright and opposite colours will energise you.
Decorate Your Home
Flowers are a quick way to decorate your home; pulling together your personal style and making your living space appear more polished. Not only are flowers are a beautiful finishing touch to your interior design, they have the ability to change the feel of your home or of particular rooms. Bright arrangements can lift the vibes of your living space, brightening homes with dark furniture or limited light. More understated bouquets can make a hectic home feel calmer, or an arrangement of one colour in varying shades can tie together your colour theme. Changing the feel of your home depending on the season is also made easy through the use of flowers.

I am delighted to have been selected to part take in the ‘Women In Business’ campaign being ran by the Mayo Advertiser. It is so important for small local businesses like Balla Florist to get the support of our local community and companies.
Thank you to the Mayo Advertiser for featuring me and my shop. Have a read of the article which was published on October 21st 2020 below.
“Judi Roche-Fallon, owner of Balla Florists, is married to James Fallon and has three children, Jack, Charlie, and Gracie. Life is busy as a self-employed florist and mother of three but the love of her job is a great reward.
Judi came from a family of florists as her mum had a few shops in Wexford, from where Judi hails. As she says herself, she grew up under the shop counter and would have been preparing wedding flowers and sympathy flowers from a very early age.
Balla Florists has become synonyms with wedding flowers, winning numerous national awards, due to Judi’s keen eye for detail and beautiful arrangements. The current Covid-19 restrictions have seen thousands of people’s special days either postponed or become much smaller affairs than initially planned.
“We are working with brides and grooms who have had to see their weddings go from 300 people right down to 25 people, but they are still going ahead with their big day. We are here to work with couples who are going ahead with their weddings and making sure that the flowers they want will still be one of the most special parts of their wedding day – so if you are getting married and are worried, don’t be afraid to get in touch and we will be here to advise and help you in any way we can” – Judi said.
Judi went on to say: “One of the other things that has really been affected over the past few months for people is their ability to go to funerals to show their respect after someone dies. We’re here to compose a touching and personal floral tribute that we can deliver to pass on your sympathy to the grieving family.
In choosing to order your flowers from Balla Florists you can be totally confident that your chosen item will be individually created by one of their highly experienced and creative florists, and that your gift will be hand-delivered to the chosen recipient.
Balla Florists is located on the Main Street in Balla, and is adjacent to Kiltimagh, Castlebar, and Claremorris and therefore is able to offer a reliable delivery service. Whatever the occasion, qualified professional staff will create a beautifully crafted arrangement to suit any needs.
Balla Florists is open from 9am to 6pm, Monday to Saturday – and is also open 24-hours-a-day online, which has been a key business driver during Covid-19 restrictions. “I’ve had a website up and running since 2009 and have a great gallery of different flower arrangements and displays for any occasion,” said Judi.
For all your flower needs, call today – the friendly staff are always on hand to help and advise you. Call (094 ) 9366858 or order your flowers on www.ballaflorists.com, you can find Balla Florists on Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, and YouTube.”

Our florists is in Balla nearly 16 years. We also have an online store since 2009.
While I know that flowers aren’t a necessity, I also know that for many people they are an uplifting way to keep connected with others when we can’t always be there in person. I hope that we can help to provide moments of comfort by continuing our service for as long as it remains permitted by the Government and safe to do so. Of course, keeping everyone safe, healthy and connected during this uncertain time is a huge priority of mine.
Having our online business has meant we have been fortunate to have been able to increase our online business. You can use our click and collect service or arrange for flowers/gift to be delivered straight to a loved ones door.
1. Following All Government Advice
Contactless Delivery
Our deliveries will all be contactless. Our hand-tied bouquets will be left safely on the doorstep and you won’t need to sign for anything. Our deliveries are managed by Judi and delivered safely by our drivers who are all also following the latest government guidance to keep everyone safe and well.
Protecting People’s Livelihoods
As well as having a duty to keep everyone healthy, I also have a duty to protect my staff and supply partners’ livelihoods at a time of economic difficulty. While our flower packing partners can’t work from home, we have very strict health and hygiene measures in place. This means that they can work safely and in line with the latest government advice, which is encouraging online retail to continue, and allowing work to continue where it can’t be done from home.
Of course our shop is open again to the public and we are adhering to all guidelines in store also.
2. Supporting Our Community
Supporting Those Who Need It The Most With Positive Pick-me-ups
In our digital world it’s hard to escape the news. Sometimes that can feel quite overwhelming and we need a distraction from being stuck at home. So we’ve started sharing content and uplifting photos of our work and microweddings on our social channels in the hopes that we will make you (and your favourite people) smile.
We hope to come up with more ways we can spread thoughtfulness to all our customers during this uncertain time. So watch this space.
Stay safe – we are all in this together!

Sending funeral flowers is a wonderful way to show that you care and be a reflection of your respect and love for the dearly departed.
Funeral flower arrangements come in standing, bouquet, wreath, and casket styles however, it’s often difficult to know what flowers are best to send for funeral flowers. Funeral flowers are typically white or red roses, white chrysanthemums, white lilies and more pale flowers. But depending on the setting and what you know of the deceased, you may prefer having brightly coloured or tropical style funeral flowers delivered.
Just because flower arrangements for funerals are usually white, doesn’t mean that’s what you’re expected to send. Whatever funeral flower delivery you choose to send, can be a reflection of your own feelings, or say something specifically about the departed.
All of our floral arrangements for funerals come with a little card so that you can express your sentiments to the recipients. When deciding on the card message for funeral flowers, we suggest keeping the following tips in mind:
· Keep your message simple and short.
· Share a nice memory or anecdote of the deceased if you would like to make it more personal.
Flowers for funeral delivery can also be sent to a wake at the family home, funeral parlour or anywhere else where you feel that they might be needed. As long as we have the address and access to the location, your order will arrive as requested.
At Balla Florist, we take great pride in our funeral flower arrangement deliveries. We understand that you need your order quickly, and we will never sacrifice the quality just because you need it quickly.
Funeral flowers are available to order online every day at Balla Florist or if you are looking for a unique arrangement for your loved one’s funeral, please do not hesitate to give us a call and we would be happy to create something special for you.
